Bullard, TX – On Monday, May 5, seniors from Bullard High School participated in the 6th annual Seniors Serving Seniors community outreach event. This initiative allows graduating seniors to connect with and give back to the Bullard community.
Armed with shovels, rakes, gloves, mulch, and other tools, the class of 2025 boarded school buses and traveled to 19 different locations to assist local senior citizens with yard work and minor repairs, such as mowing lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, and other projects.
Bullard senior Bella Ramos expressed how meaningful their efforts were to the homeowners they served. “The homeowner we helped was very happy with our work, which is incredibly rewarding,” Bella shared. “She started tearing up. It was wonderful to continue the tradition of assisting senior citizens in our community.”
This marks the sixth year of the Seniors Serving Seniors event, which has become a cherished tradition among seniors. Students spend the morning with their Panther Time classes (homerooms) and are assigned one or two job sites based on the specific needs at each location. When finished, students return to school for a pizza lunch.
“Today was such a blessing for everyone involved,” Sara Register, a senior Panther Time teacher, said. “It was uplifting to see the students jump right in to help members of the community. I hope the students learn that a small act of kindness can go a long way and bring joy to the older generation. I also hope they recognize that one day they will be ‘older’ and remember this experience throughout their lives.”
