Bullard High School Tennis Team proved its dominance once again on April 24th, hosting the district tournament this Spring and winning both the Varsity Boys and Girls District Titles.

Several players performed key roles leading to the double sweep.
First and second place finishers qualified for the next step, regionals.

Leading the way was a mixed doubles team, junior Logan Brooks, and freshman phenom, Logan Wilson.

Brooks and Wilson had only played together in four previous tournaments all season before starting ‘Logan’s Run.’

“We’ve known each other for a while, and when we got paired together, we just decided we were going to have fun,” said Wilson, the gal of the duo. “And when we play, we take it seriously for sure, but we love to laugh and joke around, and so far it’s been a great combination.”

Next thing you know, it’s ‘Logan’s Run’, on the way with other teammates to regionals in Bryan/College Station for another title chase.

After a first round bye ‘ Logans’ Run’ faced the winner of the Andrews/Seguin Navarro match. Pictured left to right are Assistant Coach Lindy Kidd, freshman Logan Wilson, junior, Logan Brooks, and first year Head Tennis Coach, James Wills.–

The duo took the Mixed Doubles Regional Title without dropping a single set, defeating highly-touted Waco Robinson in the semi-finals. The win set them up for the title match and denied another great team from Gatesville, the top-seeded team in the State.

 The ‘Dynamic Duo’ drew a first-round bye due to the regional title and will play the winner of the Andrews/Seguin Navarro match at the Anne Marie Tennis Center in San Antonio on Thursday.

“Drawing a bye is really huge for us,” said Logan Brooks about the upcoming challenge. “This way we get to kind of scout who we play a little, but mostly it’s huge to be able to rest up and be ready to play our best.”

 As far as looking ahead into the state competition, Wills Point and Canyon Randle will be forces to contend with en route to the title.

 “I’m just so proud to represent Bullard and continue the tennis legacy the program has built over the years,” Wilson added, “And to be perfectly honest, I’m feeling pretty confident about our chances.” S

So this Tuesday, Bullard hosted a sendoff for the duo as they take the step toward State, in San Antonio, awaiting the second-round match tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.

 “We played really well in both district and regionals tournaments,” said Brooks about winning regionals. “She and I just have a great time playing and we worked hard to get where we are, and we appreciate the school and the community for all their support.”

All the district champions and runner-ups that qualified for the Panthers include, Girls Singles champ, Danica Vestal;
Caleb Heath and Ryder Nelson took the Boys Doubles title; Samantha Pipkin and Kinsley Howard were Girls Doubles District Champions; while Logan’s Run began with Brooks and Wilson taking home the Mixed Doubles District Champions.

Adding to the district championship march were Christian Morgan, second in district; Willow Hamilton and Josiah Edwards took second in Mixed Doubles; and Madelyn Morgan and London Ruark teamed up for second place in girls doubles.
