SAN ANTONIO –  Team Logan was ready for a showdown this past weekend at the UIL State tennis tournament.

Logan Wilson and Logan Brooks have been long-time friends, but didn’t become a doubles pair until four tournaments before district.
After waltzing through regionals without losing one single set, the Bullard duo drew a first round bye on beginning day, this past Thursday, at the Annemarie Tennis Center.

Unfortunately for Team Logan, a first loss in day two, to a state-ranked, Canyon team erased any title hopes.
After Team Logan drew the bye, they had an opportunity to scout the match they faced the winner of.
“The bye was really important, because we were able to get some nerves out of the way and save our energy for our next match, said Brooks about the bye and adding, “After watching our next opponents, we were confident that we could win going into the match.”
Ms Wilson was right on-line with her partner.
“It gave us a lot of confidence, and I didn’t feel any nerves going into the match,” the freshman Wilson added.
So later on Thursday they  took out the duo of Burgess/Whitlow, of Seguin-Navarro, in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4.
The win set up the semi-final match against Bradley Enrique and Hannah Terry, from Canyon High School.
It was to be the first loss for the young teammates, losing 4-6, and 1-6.
“We were very emotional during and after the match” said the male of the mixed duo. “but we tried our best and left everything on the court,” Brooks said.
In the Class 4A finals, Dax Betzen and Kynley Craddock, of Canyon – Randle bested Enrique and Terry of Canyon, 6-1, and 6-4 for the Mixed Doubles title.
Brooks a junior, and Wilson just a freshman, Team Logan is already thinking about next year.
“Both Logan and I will continue to practice and better our game and hopefully make another run for the state championship next year,” said Brooks about the year.
Ms. Wilson put it in perspective.
“Being in the Semi-finals for the state tournament is a huge accomplishment and there are only a few mixed-doubles teams in 4A that can say that,” as Wilson added, “We know we both want to be back here (state tournament) next year, and I’m not going to look at it as a loss…but I’m looking at it as a learning experience.”
