The fourth annual Bee Day in the Garden was held on June 21 at the Goodman – LeGrand Museum & Gardens, located at Goodman Park on 624 N Broadway Avenue, Tyler, TX.
The fourth annual Beed Day in the Garden was held Saturday June 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This event was very inclusive for all age groups with its various different booths and activities.
This is an educational event which brings light to why bees and pollinators are essential where gardens and local agriculture are concerned. The event showcases a living observation hive, a hive which was relocated back in 2024 from the Rose Garden to the Goodman – LeGrand Garden. It allows for onlookers to safely view bees as they do things such as build combs and fly through the hive.
The event also showcases many educational workshops and booths as well as various vendors and food trucks. There were educational booths that provide insight over topics such as beekeeping basics. This was hosted by local experts and covered information such as starting and running a hobby hive.
There were educational booths that shared information about creating a pollinator garden. These booths had gardeners from the Smith County Masters Gardeners and local organizations who shared tips on how to cultivate bee – friendly native plants and how to maintain them year round. The City of Tyler Urban Forestry had a booth set up to answer any questions and offer helpful tips about arbortry and the cultivation and health management of trees. There was a booth held by Texas Master Naturalists who were informing onlookers of the different species of bees and moths, as well as how to identify various different plants with app store tools. They were also informing people of pollinator friendly practices and how to create habitat for stem – nesting bees. There were also child friendly booths with held hands – on kid activities such as arts and crafts that taught children about things such as pollinator lifecycles and their ecological importance.
Overall, Bee Day in the Garden was a very informative event and accessible for anyone who may have been interested in supporting Tyler’s pollinator community.
Moving forward, the annual Bee Day in the Garden is expected to be held annually every late June, typically landing on a Saturday in the third or fourth week of the month.
