Jami Rogers, co – owner of Growing Grace Farms, shares her story of how their famous Willie Nelson Scarecrow came to be.
Jami and John Rogers are the owners of
Growing Grace Farms located in Whitehouse, TX. This farm of theirs features various animals, crops, produce, and flowers. As a way to promote their farm and share their life stories, they are very active on media platforms such as Facebook. Which is where they shared the story of the creation of the Will
ie Nelson Scarecrow.
In an interview with Jami Rogers, she shared that before the creation of the scarecrow, she had four other scarecrows set up around her farm. She had given each of them names, and one i
n particular was named Willie. In the interview, she said that she was familiar
with the famous country music singer Willie Nelson, but the scarecrow named Willie at the time was not created to share any connection with Willie Nelson. She stated that her grandchildren used to come over to visit the far
m and she would take them on a golf cart ride to visit these scarecro
ws. She said that they used to think the Willie scarecrow was named “Willie again”, because every time they came over, she would ask them if they wanted to see Willie again.
From there, she had gotten the idea that perhaps she could make the Scarecrow appear to the likeness of Willie Nelson himself. She then started her project of constructing her now completed scarecrow. The scarecrow stands tall with a pair of blue jeans, a W
illie Nelson T-shirt, bandana scarf, and a handmade wooden guitar.
Once completed
, Rogers moved the scarecrow to the end of her road for her neighbors to enjoy as well. She also added signs that state, “Have a Willie Willie Willie Good
Day” and “Honk if you ❤ Willie”.
She shared that because of her signs she gets a lot of honking from her
neighbors, trash collectors, as well as her mailman.
