TYLER, Texas — Two men were arrested early Wednesday after Smith County deputies responded to reports of a vehicle burglary in progress south of Tyler.

Deputies were dispatched at 1:05 a.m. to the 11800 block of Bird Point Trail, where witnesses reported two suspects attempting to open vehicle doors in a driveway, according to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner confronted the suspects, who fled on foot. A maroon 1994 Dodge 1500 pickup was later identified in the neighborhood as a vehicle of interest. Deputies reviewed homeowner-provided video that showed the suspects attempting to unlawfully enter vehicles and then fleeing westbound on Bearwood Lane.

With assistance from Whitehouse police, deputies set up a perimeter in the area. One suspect was located near the neighborhood entrance off FM 346, and the second was found hiding in a drainage culvert nearby. The Dodge pickup was determined to have been used by the suspects and was towed from the scene.

Ardie Lee Rabon, 25, and Trea Kaepone Scott, 25, both of Whitehouse, were arrested and booked into the Smith County Jail. They face three counts each of attempted burglary of a motor vehicle, with bond set at $500 per charge.
