WHITEHOUSE, Texas — The Whitehouse Economic Development Corporation has named longtime city employee Susan Hargis as its new executive director.

Hargis has served the city for 26 years in various roles, most recently as city secretary and planning and zoning director. She has worked with the EDC since its inception, providing administrative support and guidance.

The EDC, funded through a portion of local sales tax, focuses on attracting new businesses, supporting existing ones, investing in public infrastructure and amenities, and encouraging long-term economic stability.

According to a press release sent out in their “Weekly Wrap Up” it was noted that the  Whitehouse Economic Development Corporation plays a vital role in supporting the city’s growth and quality of life. Funded by a portion of local sales tax, the EDC works to:

  • Attract new businesses and jobs
  • Support existing businesses and help them grow
  • Invest in public spaces and infrastructure
  • Improve amenities for residents and visitors
  • Encourage long-term economic stability and opportunity

“In short, the EDC helps make Whitehouse a better place to live, work, and do business.”

In her new role, Hargis will work with city leaders, businesses and residents to support growth and maintain the city’s development goals.
