Dr. Erasmus Manley Hanna served as Troup’s first mayor around 1872, guiding the young community during its earliest days of growth.

By the 1920s, the town’s spirit of cooperation led to the founding of the Troup Chamber of Commerce, which has now supported residents for more than a century. Today, Melanie Brumit serves as President, continuing the Chamber’s legacy of strengthening local life. Over the years, the Chamber has helped launch and charter important organizations in Troup, including the Rotary Club.

As the town expanded, its municipal government developed into a fuller structure with positions such as mayor, constable, city commissioner, and justice of the peace. These roles shaped Troup’s civic foundation and helped guide the community through decades of change.
