Troup Women’s Civic Organization Opens Pre-Sale for Community Cookbook

TROUP, Texas (ETX Bell) — The Troup Women’s Civic Organization (TWCO) has announced the pre-sale launch of its community cookbook, a heartfelt collection of recipes shared by current and past members.

The cookbook, a first for TWCO, features treasured dishes from some of the area’s best home cooks—including recipes passed down from beloved former members. Proceeds from the project will benefit TWCO’s ongoing community service efforts.

“We are thrilled to share this labor of love with the community,” said Amanda Jo Ratcliff, TWCO Cookbook Committee Chairman. “It’s more than a cookbook—it’s a piece of our town’s heritage.”

Community members who would like to pre-order their copy of the TWCO Cookbook can send a note with their name, phone number, and number of copies they would like, along with a check for the correct amount ($25/book) to Carol Whitsell, P.O. Box 208 Troup, TX 75789. Pre-orders will be taken through June 25th, 2025. Pre-order customers will be contacted by phone when the cookbooks arrive to coordinate pickup. We will not ship books. Estimated arrival of cookbooks is late September/early October.

TWCO President Barbara Barton explained that she “first had the idea of a TWCO Cookbook about a year ago while serving refreshments at the Troup Library Game Day where our members had prepared the food. I have always thought Troup Women’s Civic Organization has the best cooks in East Texas and had said so at our meetings. We usually know who prepared their favorite dish and look forward to having them at our events. We are especially known for our pies and have been called the ‘Pie Ladies.’    I commented that we should do a TWCO Cookbook to include members’ recipes, but was told it had been attempted before and failed, so it probably wasn’t going to happen.  I discussed the idea with different members over the next several months with positive feedback, so I presented the idea to the membership at our meeting in February, and it was approved.   A Cookbook committee was formed, and we hope to publish this fall.”

To order, checks may be made payable to TWCO and mailed to the address on the pre-order form. If a form is unavailable, purchasers can include a note with their name, phone number, number of books requested, and total payment amount.
