Fifth-grade students explored the day and night cycle through a hands-on classroom activity using marshmallows, food coloring, and a lamp. This interactive lesson helped students observe how Earth’s rotation creates daylight and darkness.     Recently, fifth-grade students explored the day and night cycle through a creative and engaging classroom activity. Students used jumbo marshmallows and food coloring to paint models of Earth. A classroom lamp was used to represent the Sun, allowing students to observe how Earth’s rotation causes day and night.     By rotating their marshmallow Earths with their fingers acting as the axis, students were able to see how different parts of the planet experience daylight and darkness. This hands-on activity helped bring an important science concept to life and encouraged curiosity and excitement among students.
