TYLER — A model train show will return to the Tyler area this summer for the first time in several years, bringing back an event that once drew a strong local following.
The Tyler Area Train Show is scheduled for June 13-14 at the TASCA Event Center in Whitehouse. Organizers say the event marks the first time in quite some time that a train show of this kind has been held in the Tyler area.
Train shows were previously hosted at the Tyler Rose Garden Center, where they were held regularly and attracted enthusiasts from across the region. Those events ended after the facility was replaced by the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center, where higher costs made continuing the shows difficult for organizers.
The upcoming event came together following a chance connection at the Historic Train Depot in downtown Tyler. TASCA leadership met organizers involved in the train community, leading to discussions that ultimately resulted in the show being scheduled locally once again.
Organizers say they are enthusiastic about bringing the event back and have secured exhibitors from multiple locations. Displays will include operating model train layouts, along with railroad memorabilia, tracks and accessories.
The show will feature multiple train scales, including N, HO, O and G, as well as modular layouts presented by model railroad clubs. A grand prize drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on June 14, and attendees do not need to be present to win.
The event is sponsored by the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society, Tyler Tap Chapter, with proceeds benefiting the Cotton Belt Depot Museum.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 13 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 14 at the TASCA Event Center, 10495 County Road 2167 in Whitehouse. Admission is $7 for adults, and children under 12 are admitted free .
